2008 Teachers as Leaders and Learners Workshop: Building on What We Know

CFE presented our first ever Outstanding Teacher Leader Award to Chicago Public School veteran, Ms. Marjorie Rogasner, a 1st Grade Bilingual teacher at Daniel Boone School. Ms. Rogasner, a Nationally Board Certified teacher, was formally recognized at the event for her dedication to her students and school community, her leadership, and her innovation.


The 20th Annual Teachers as Leaders & Learners Workshop is Chicago’s largest independent event facilitated by and for CPS teachers, and was held Saturday, September 27, 2008, from 8 a.m. to 3p.m. at Whitney Young High School. Nearly 500 teachers converged for a day of inspiration, collegiality, sharing and networking.




Registration included: access to keynote, access to over 60 grant winning curricular projects and teaching strategies, goodie bag, raffle, continental breakfast, catered lunch, 5 CPDUs* and parking! *To earn 5 CPDUs, teachers needed to complete the evaluation form and be present all day.

Keynote: "Using Brain Research to Differentiate and Ignite Instruction"--This year's Keynote Address was given by Dr. Judy Willis. Judy Willis is a nationally recognized speaker and author who has combined her experiences as a neurologist and teacher to become an authority in the field of brain research and classroom strategies derived from this research. She has authored the ASCD books Research-Based Strategies to Ignite Student Learning (2006) and most recently, Teaching the Brain to Read: Strategies for Improving Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension (2008). In her keynote address, Dr. Willis shared ways that CPS teachers can use the latest brain research to differentiate instruction and awaken learning int all students.


The 2008 CFE Workshop was held at Whitney Young High School on Saturday, September 27, 2008 from 8:00am to 3:00pm Whitney Young High School is located at 1431 W. Jackson Blvd, easily accessible from both Interstate 290 and Interstate 90/94.
